Captain Keith Godfrey

Macroteach Ltd offer a range of courses on the fear of flying.

Macroteach Ltd is an aviation training company, specialising in Human Factors training for pilots and cabin crew.

Our consultants, instructors and facilitators have unequalled experience of aviation training.

Captain Keith Godfrey has over 20,000 flying hours and was, until his retirement, from British Airways, a CAA examiner for flight tests and training. In 1959 Keith qualified as a glider pilot one day after his 16th birthday. At 18 he held a private pilots licence and by 20 was the youngest person ever to have held a flying instructors rating in the UK

For four years he was the Chief instructor of the biggest flying club in England and amassed more than 3000 hours flying experience. Following a short period flying a freighter aircraft he joined British European Airways , which subsequently became British Airways. During his career in BA he flew the Vickers Viscount, the Lockheed Tri-star and the Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft. For many years he was both a training and examining captain for the Civil Aviation Authority . His training style was notable for its innovative and effective qualities, which was highly popular with his students but occasionally demanding of the management.

In 2003 he became the first person to be accredited as an official Civil Aviation Authority examiner of pilots and instructors in Human Factors training, With his considerable training experience and technical knowledge he now prepares and presents CAA approved training courses for experienced pilots to qualify as training pilots and examiners. Working as a consultant to other Fear of Flying Course providers he has developed a user directed course using flight simulators.

In this environment, which is under the complete control of the customer anxious flyers can re-create the circumstances of flight which they want to experience. Multiple take offs or landings, extreme or light turbulence, night flying, thunderstorms and more, can all be recreated to instill confidence and knowledge for the anxious flyer.

Captain Godfrey has been featured on national television and radio and has made many of live broadcasts on local BBC Radio stations throughout the UK. He is often contacted for comment as an industry expert on aviation travel.

Articles about his work with nervous air travelers have been featured in UK publications as varied as The Times, The Daily Telegraph, and The Daily Mail, The Readers Digest, Harpers and Queens, The Evening Standard, The London Metro and many well known magazines. Numerous articles about the book and website have been published in travel trade magazines.

In November 2002 he published his book 'Flying without Fear’ which became Amazon’s best seller in its category within a few weeks and has helped thousands to go flying. He can be seen talking about the book in this online video provided by 'Meet the Author.com'.

In 2005, in conjunction with a leading member of The Royal Shakespeare Company he wrote and produced a 4CD audio course entitled 'Listen & Go…Flying without Fear' , designed to help people go flying without fear.
