Overcoming your fear of flying
- the most appropriate way
There are three ways to overcome a fear of flying. The first is to suppress the thoughts that cause fear by persuading yourself that your thoughts and therefore your feelings are misplaced and with some positive thinking these thoughts can be prevented from becoming conscious. The second is medication which if prescribed by a Doctor is entirely sensible.
And the third way is to wipe the slate clean and arm yourself with a strategy that you can use each time you go flying.
We believe that before any progress can be made in overcoming your fear you have to dispel the myths of flying and have confidence that, despite all your feelings that flying is relatively normal.
It is not complicated or difficult to fly an airliner and it is most definitely not in the hands of the Gods. Flying is safe because of the laws of physics and gravity, not despite them. It’s a well regulated and sensibly organised form of travel. Remeber, flying is much safer than you think.
From a fear of flying...to a flight without fear...
How can you switch from having a fear of to a feeling where you become happy to fly? The truth is that it’s unlikely that you could do that, and the very first step in dealing with your fear of flying is to set yourself an achievable target. Don’t set yourself unachievable goals…you may never actually enjoy flying but you may well be able to deal with it in such a way that you can be in control of your thoughts feelings and behaviour. It is possible...just read experiences of those who have done it...
To control your thoughts and feelings you need to understand two things. First you need to understand the reality of flying what really happens when an airline sends one of its planes into the sky. You need to know why it is so safe; you need to understand all the measures and procedures that are there to make flying the safest form of transport available. But you don’t need to be an encyclopaedia of knowledge…more importantly you need to know how to use that knowledge. If you can get to the point where you can answer your own questions about the things that concern you …then you will be able to overcome your fear of flying. So your first aim ought to be to go flying and have your feelings and behaviour under your control. This will require knowledge and preparation, knowledge and preparation you can get from this site , from us and from our products. Then after while as you put your strategy into action and you gain confidence from flights you’ll be able to deal with more of your anxieties until you reach a point where you are in control so that what ever thoughts jump into your mind you will be able to deal with them constructively, and at the same time building your confidence in your ability to control your fear of flying.
